Hi,
could anyone tell me if it is possible to recover a Cat 6500 that has no code on bootflash from ROMMON, and is it mandatory to have a compact flash card to do the recovery ? or can one use xmodem or TFTP ?
Thanks

Hi ,
Thanks for your response. Do you use TFTP or XModem ?

It definitely looks like you need a flash card if you loose the files in bootflash:
See excerpt from doc:
As the Recover a Supervisor Engine 720 from a Missing/Corrupted Cisco IOS Image or ROMmon Mode section mentions, the Supervisor Engine 720 does not support the Xmodem recovery procedure.
Therefore, always keep a copy of the image in disk0 or disk1, or the MSFC boot Flash. If you do not have any copies on either disk0 or disk1 and you encounter the problem of a missing/corrupted image, the only way to recover is to copy the image on the Flash disk from another switch.

Then if you have SUP720. So you will have to have disk0 then..

so there is no way to TFTP then ?

Hello Antonio,
As you said definitely you need a flash card if you loose the files in sup-bootflash (memory of the supervisor). The Supervisor Engine 720 does not support the Xmodem recovery procedure and there is no way we could TFTP a file in to the sup. The only way to recover the supervisor in these cases is by copying the IOS image from a
Flash disk (disk0/disk1).
