No one is removing/replacing modules.

I have heard about power problems?

Should it be caused by ip pontes Powered over ethernet cables?

Hi,

One thing I see is that there are moments with no frames on EOBC (shared comunication medium):

%ERR_DET-5-ERR_DET_NO_EOBC_INPUT: No EOBC input, dump debuginfo,

interval 10, times 3

Possible reasons this behavior could be that one of the modules or supervisor are faulty and jam EOBC. System do not hear messages from modules due to jam and resets those automatically in an attempt to recover.

I suggest to take out all modules and insert one by one checking switch stability after each new linecard inserted. Then either you find out one module that is triggerring the problem or the problem won't be reproduced. If latter, then root cause was in misseated linecard.

If any module is reloading in the chassis with only supervisor in it, then supervisor or chassis are at fault. You can further narrow down by changing sup or trying in another chassis.

That was what we did the last two days.

We found out a user that had connected a switch/hub at his office (without authorization)

and had also connected a cable  (a loop) from port 7 to port 8 of this switch.

The problem stops when shutting down  the user office port connected to Cisco 6509.

Have you heard about this ?

Hi Rosa,

Potentially the same could be seen if CPU on supervisor was at 100%, unable to reply on keepaloves from modules. Did you have a chance to check CPU utilization during the issue?

I will try the experiment latter, in an appropriate occasion.

I guess  I will get 100% of cpu usage.

I'm a bit skeptical that modules would timeout, even during an STP loop where CPU is 100%.  But I suppose with older hardware or an older IOS version and under certain other conditions, it would be possible. 

Rosa - I'd recommend entering configuration mode and adding either of these commands:

spanning-tree portfast bdpufilter default or spanning-tree portfast bpduguard default

Either of these commands will help to mitigate against the loop automatically.
