Hi all experts.

I have 6509 switch with 2 sup720 working as backup and primary. Now our concern is, is there anyway to generate alerts for the following

1) If 6509 is running on primary, and backup sup fails,

2) if 6509 shifts to backup

Also, how can i shift backup sup to become primary ?

Kindly guide me

Hi Jonn,

Answering to your questions,

For your first two questions, you can see the alerts on "sh log" if any of the sup fails and a failover happens.

The reason also will be seen in the logs.

If you are running on 1st sup and want to make 2nd as primary, then follow these steps:

Take out 1st sup from chassis. This will make the 2nd sup as primary (because the failover will happen). Now insert the 1st sup again and it will come up as redundant sup.

Hope that helps.

Dear Sir,

How shall i enable this logging ? i mean is there any command to enable snmp traps for sup shifting ?

Secondly, is there anyway from IOS to shift the backup sup to primary ?

You probably can refer to the Redundancy MIB for the detail at:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_0s/feature/guide/ssomibs3.html .

And the switchover for the redundancy to the standby sup is "redundancy force-switchover"

you need to make sure the standby is ready to switchover by "show redundancy status"

My 2 cents.
