     Hi all,

I configured 6509 VSS one of my customer, while chaecking failover. First i shut down the active switch traffic is going through secondary switch.Afterwards i restared active switch but that time secondary switch is also the reinsalaies all the port. Its takes 50 sec to come back so they consider that time down time.what might be the problem.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I am using BFD for dual active detection.

Hello Chandru,

and you have a dedicated direct link for BFD packets to flow between the two switches?

I suppose you have the dedicated link

what IOS version is running on the VSS pair?

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi,

Ya i have decticated link between two switches.

Kindly find the attachment.

In a VSS enviremnt, you should not have any down time at all.  I have tested this many times with no issues. The reason for your primary box rebooting is because you have preeamtion configure.

After looking at your config, one thing I suggest is that you should delete priority and preemption, save your config and test again.

Hi,

Here i need to clarfiy one thing primary is not rebooting. For failover testing i am shuting down the primary switch and checking the connectivity through ping form the server to router its happening fine. While powering up the primary switch again the secondary switch is rebooting. Now waht i have to do same as you said can i delete preempt and priority.Kindly let me know this.

Regards,

Chandru

Chandru,

Yes, remove priority and preemption

Make sure to SAVE the config.

Now reboot again and test.

In a scenario where you do not have priority and preemption, if you reboot both switches at the same time, switch-1 will always be the primary and switch-2 is the back up which you don't have access to make any config changes.

Hi Guys,

I am also having the same problem...

We have seen issue when any of our VSL link goes the entire VSS pair goes down and even if the primary unit fails the secondary unit dont take over...

Another Q if the primary unity SUP fails will the secondary pair of  SUP engine will suport  the primary switch or the primary will be down that time.

Please check the attachment for our VSS config...
