6509E Blade Replacement

I have a 6509E with a WS-X6748-GE-TX line card.  The line card failed and I have a replacement ready.  The Nortel/Avaya chasis that I have worked with in the past had a firmware for the line card that needed to match the code the switch is running.  The code on the core is rather old and just would like to do it right the first time.  Is this a requirement for the Ciasco 6509E?

@mdieken011 hello,

Those modules will work with the code you have.

The Catalyst 6500 IOS Release Notes talk abaout minimum ROMMON version on the module for these two modules:

Use with Release  12.2(33)SXH or later requires switching module ROMMON version  12.2(18r)S1 or later. To display the switching module ROMMON version,  enter the remote command module module_slot_number show version | include ROM command. To upgrade the switching module ROMMON, see this document:

Release notee link :

Keep in mind that there is ROMMON on the Supervisor and ROMMON on the module, and they are not necessarily the same.

If the Line Card replacement is straight forward, not worry, if any issue with card your log will show.
