6509E chassis, best practice for installing blades, any particular order?

Aside from using slot 5 or 6 for the SUP engine, does it matter from power supply utilization, what order the blades are installed?

For example if I have six blades, two 48 port gigabit blades and four 48 port fastethernet POE blades, does it matter how they ae plugged into the backplane as far as which slot?

Should the gigabit blades be seperated (not in adjacent slots) Or should the POE blades be sperated if possible?

Or, does it not matter?

Hi,

Regarding power consumption, there will be little difference.

Heath dissipation is perhaps served better by alternating PoE and non-PoE blades but the chassis is built to handle the heath generated by the modules, regardless of blade config.

You can also consider the ease of administration achieved by having all the PoE blades grouped together.

Still you posed a good question. It is always better to place your modules after giving the matter some thought. Once they are cabled and operational, it is not that simple anymore to make changes.

Leo

Hi,

Most of the cisco linecards are hot-swappable. So you can install & remove the line cards when the chassis is on.

Regarding the power supplies, if you remove one power supply then the other supply will provide power in redundant mode.

But if it is in a combined mode, then you will be having a network outage since both the power supplies delivering power.

You can refer datasheet of the switch for more specific details.
