6513 - Synchronising a hot standby Sup720??

Hi,

I removed a hot standby supervisor card and made some changes to the configuration on the primary (remaining) card.

I did this because I wanted to quickly go back to a working configuration if anything went wrong during the change I was doing.

The change worked and the primary is happily running the new configuration now.

The problem -

When I reinserted the secondary (hot standby) card it didn't come back online as a standby.   All the 4 lights on the card are still showing as orange and the 'show mod' output shows the following:

Mod Ports Card Type                              Model              Serial No.

the IOS version is:

Cisco IOS Software, s72033_rp Software (s72033_rp-IPSERVICES_WAN-M), Version 12.2(33)SXH7, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)

Please can anybody advise what process needs to be followed to synchronise the secondary card and bring it back online as a 'hot standby'?

Thank you,

Andy

Casabasan,

Can you provide the outcome of "show redundancy", please?

Also, connect to the standby Sup via console. Let me know if it is in ROMmon or what the status is.

My theory is they will not sync due to mismatched configs. In some versions of code, this global command can help:

- redundancy config-sync ignore mismatched-commands

Otherwise, you will have to remove the working Sup, seat only the "unknown" Sup and configure it the same.

Kind regards,

- Ed

All the 4 lights on the card are still showing as orange and the 'show mod' output shows the following:

This means the line card has gone into ROMmon.

There are many causes for a redundant supervisor card booting into ROMmon.  They could be the following:

1.  Hardware failure;

2.  IOS mismatch with the active supervisor card;

3.  No IOS found;

4.  Wrong config-registry settings.

The best way to determine is to console into the redundant line card and take it from there.
