6880-X VSS Pair / How to get the Base Ethernet MAC Address

Hi,

I have a running 6880-X VSS Pair. How do I get the Base Ethernet MAC Address of each 6880-X?

Is there any CLI to get that?

Thx!

BR Konrad.

Hi Konrad,

Would perhaps show version help? Information such as base MAC address is often indicated in this output.

Best regards,
Peter

AS peter said most of the devices will give you this info from show version output.

But on this box try the following command to see the base mac address:-

show ver-- doesnt have the mac address info.
Cisco C6880-X ( Intel(R) Core(TM) i3- CPU @ 2.00GHz ) processor (revision ) with 3144704K/262144K bytes of memory.
Processor board ID SALXXXXXXX
Processor signature 0xA700000
Last reset from power-on
2 Virtual Ethernet interfaces
1 Gigabit Ethernet interface

Configuration register is 0x2102

Hi Inayath,

Thanks for joining!

Hmmm, that command surely works... but isn't there a more suited, dedicated command to show you the base MAC on a 6800-X? Surely, doing a detective work over almost unrelated commands isn't Cisco's intention. Unfortunately, I don't have a 6800-X anywhere near - but would perhaps some of the show module or show switch ... commands reveal this kind of information?

Best regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

I didnt find any dedicate command that shows us the base mac on the 680 or 6500 series. might be that bcz of module switch that each module will have its own mac address build on it. I did lot of research on my lab box but couldn't find any. I will try to do some more research and in case if I happen to see any will let you know.

Hi Guys,

thx for your replies... the problem is that I would need the Base MAC Address of both 6880-X... and with show mac... show modules... I will get only the MAC of the active chassis, also if I change active/standby roles... the MAC remains the same.

I tried

show module switch <1 or 2> slot 5  (slot 5 is SUP)
Mod MAC addresses                       Hw    Fw           Sw           Status
--- ---------------------------------- ------ ------------ ------------ -------
  5  xxxx.xxxx.0011 to xxxx.xxxx.0026   1.1   15.1(02)SY01 15.1(2)SY5   Ok

but not sure if this will be the base eth mac.

show version will not provide the base mac... like on 2960x or 3750X.

Thx!

BR Konrad.
