access lsits question flow

Hello team,

 

I was wondering if an Access list is still getting processed if its not applied under an interface?

Hi,
An ACL could be applied in multiple places and does not necessarily need to be applied to an interface. It could be used for route redistribution, vty lines, snmp access etc.

To check if it's being used, check the acl counters "show ip access-list" and see if there are any matches or if the hit count is increasing.

no, an access list that is not applied anywhere does not get processed.
