I purchased a 2511 access server on eBay and am have some issues that I hope someone can help me with before I go back to eBay and the seller.
The first error message I get is:
ERR: Invalid chip id 0x80B5 (reversed = 0x1AD ) detected in System flash
Illegal IP keyword - domain
Illegal IP keyword - http
Illegal IP keyword - classless
The enter key seems to bypass this and the boot continues:

Then the router hangs at:
%SNMP-5-COLDSTART: SNMP agent on host Terminal is undergoing a cold start
And goes no further.
Any suggestions would greatly help.
Thanks in advance.

The 2500 routers are quite different from other Cisco routers in that they are run from flash machines. Most routers read the operating code from flash into memory and execute the code in memory. But the 2500 is executing code from flash. And I suspect that this makes the first issue that you mention more important than it seems at first. I wonder if "ERR: Invalid chip id 0x80B5 (reversed = 0x1AD ) detected in System flash" tells us that there is an issue in flash. And I wonder if that issue might prevent the router from successfully completing the boot process.
My first suggestion would be to open that chassis and check the flash. Perhaps it might help to reseat the flash.

Thanks for your help Rick.
I did as you suggested and re-seated the flash and I'm still getting the same error.
I googled the error message and there are a number of hits and most talk about an old Boot version being incompatable. I'm studying for my CCNA and this is a home lab, so please excuse my lack of knowledge.
This is what is posting:
System Bootstrap, Version 4.14(9.1), SOFTWARE
Copyright (c) 1986-1994 by cisco Systems
2500 processor with 16384 Kbytes of main memory
ERR: Invalid chip id 0x80B5 (reversed = 0x1AD ) detected in System flash
At this point it hangs until I hit and hold the enter key then this appears:
Illegal IP keyword - domain
Illegal IP keyword - http
Illegal IP keyword - classless
From this point it appears that it is booting until it hangs completely at:
%SNMP-5-COLDSTART: SNMP agent on host Terminal is undergoing a cold start
So possibly I'm stuck at this point. I still haven't heard from the fellow on eBay concerning this, so again I appreciate your help.

I wish that there was more that I could offer in the way of help. It sounds to me like your best hope at this point would be to hear from the person who sold it on eBay,

Howard,
Did you ever figure out a fix action for this? I am experiencing the same exact issue...
Thanks,
Edwin

Yes I did, I had to upgrade the Boot ROM. I don't recall the version at the moment, but I found it on eBay for $10. I installed the chip, and the router booted without a problem and has been working since.

Thank you for your response. I will try that and see what happens.
