Activating a appxk9 license on ISR 4300

kasper123

Level 4

I have couple of ISR 4331 and I need to activate the appxk9 license.

I can see this from slow license output:

Router6#sh license
Index 1 Feature: appxk9
Period left: Not Activated
Period Used: 0 minute 0 second
License Type: EvalRightToUse
License State: Active, Not in Use, EULA not accepted
License Count: Non-Counted
License Priority: None

How can I activate the license? Will it expire and loose the functionalities when it expires?

Thank you in advance.

Hi

The command would be license right-to-use LicenseName

You can take a look on that thread (https://supportforums.cisco.com/t5/lan-switching-and-routing/help-with-isr4331-evaluation-license/td-p/3178071) where this question has been answered.

Thanks

Hi Francesco,

Does this license run out? Is it just active for a certain period and then stops working?

Regards.

Yes when trial ends (I believe it's 90 days) then all features related to that license stop working.

Thanks

But for a 4321 :

Sh license

Index 1 Feature: appxk9
Period left: Life time
License Type: RightToUse
License State: Active, In Use
License Count: Non-Counted
License Priority: Low

Are you sure it will run out??

Nope they won't run out, it looks like this is the new licensing method. This is different depending on routers and IOS running. I'm always checking the doc for the specific router/ISO.
Here the license continues to work and you need in parallel to pay the license. It's based on trust but no check is done.

Thanks
Francesco

Thank your for your reply and I suppose it's the same for securityk9 since it's giving me the same output:

Index 3 Feature: securityk9
Period left: Life time
License Type: RightToUse
License State: Active, In Use
License Count: Non-Counted
License Priority: Low

Yes

Thanks

Hi,

Similar issue, hope you can help.

I have purchased a appxk9 licence, I received a zip file from eDelivery which contains three pdf files.

My question is, what are the next steps to get this actually installed an working?

At the moment my router shows:

rtr-lon-01#sh license
Index 1 Feature: appxk9
Period left: Not Activated
Period Used: 0 minute 0 second
License Type: EvalRightToUse
License State: Active, Not in Use, EULA not accepted
License Count: Non-Counted
License Priority: None

Thanks for your help.

Hi
You need to accept the eula agreement and enable your license.

Here a doc with all explanation:

Thanks

Hi Francesco,

It was a little more convoluted than that. I received an email from cisco support which I am still trying to understand:#

"

I have put the license from SO:  under a PAK: FP5LI9R4YZM and have fulfilled it to PID: ISR4331/K9 SN: FDO21160JPU.

You should have received an e-mail from do-not-reply@cisco.com with the license file and I am also attaching it here.

Once you receive a PAK you should fulfill it to a device using the steps below, however you can also always open a chat with us or a case, however chats are faster for PAK fulfillment.

  1. Go to www.cisco.com/go/license
  2. Go to “All Licenses for <your name>”
  3. In the PAKs/Tokens Tab click Get Licenses…
  4. Select “From PAK” and input one of the PAKs in the first field.
  5. Follow the screen prompts to complete the fulfillment operation."

Clear and simple no?

Now that have the .lic file I think I can follow the instructions described in the link you have sent.

I re-red your post and i missed the elicense part which is in fact a pdf file with a pak that you need to enable on Cisco license portal in order to get the lic file to be installed on your device

Thanks
Francesco

Yes, that is it.

The Cisco license team did that for me and here are the summary instructions after that:

1) Unzip the .zip file you received

2) Copy the .lic file within this to the router's bootflash

3) From the router console, issue "license install bootflash:<name of

file>.lic" where "<name of file>" is the name of the license file.

And that was it; no EULA to accept, no reload needed
