Hi Friends,

Please guide with the follwoing requirment,

On first floor, I have two stack switches and each stack has got 4 switches. they all are working fine.

Now the client would like to add one more stack on the 2nd floor. But the second floor switches are different when compared to the 1st floor switches.

Could any can confirm. can you have differnt IOS among different stacks. I knew in a stack we need all the switches should have same IOS version. But in between two stacks to communicate do we need same IOS or they can be on differnet IOS?

1st floor switches have 15.0 version and 2nd floor new switches has 12.2.58. Is this ok ?

1st floor switches are 3500 series ( Note: only one one Vlan 20 we are using on the both stack switches and we would like add same Vlan 20 on to the new stack)

2nd floor switches aew 2 catalyst 2960 switches.

Note: on the second floor switches one is 24 port switch and the other one is 48 port switch. so can i make them  as a stack?

We have already done cabling from 1st floor to second floor. So no problem with that at all.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

If the new switches are 2960Ss they can be stacked together but you need to purchase the optional stacking module. If they are non-S 2960s then they cannot be stacked.

IOS does not need to be the same across your infrastructure, but running the same or as close as possible of an IOS is generally considered best practice.

I am curious as to your comment stating that the first floor switches are 3500 seris, as there are no stackable switches in that carry a 35XX designation. What model are these exactly?

HI Gregory,

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry the layer 3 switches are not 3500 its 3750-48 Port.

I have no idea why the client is wanting me to install 12.2.58 on the new stacks switches.

Now I want to make the New stack switch on the 2nd floor.

I have below hardware to make them stack.

1 x Catalyst 2960s 24 GIGE, 2 x SFP Lan Lite

1 x Catalyst 2960s 48 GIGE, 2 x SFP Lan Lite

2 x Catalyst 2960s Flexstack Stack Module optional for Lan base.

Please guide me how to make Stack step by step.

2960s 48 port should be the master for this stack. Please give the steps.

Thank you soo much for your help again.

Chinnu

Ummmmm ... this thread is very, very similar to your other thread.  The only difference is you've changed your switch model from a 3750 to a 2960S.

Now I want to make the New stack switch on the 2nd floor.

HI Leolaohoo,

Could you please have a look at the below requirment and any chance of suggesting steps to follow.

I have below hardware to make them stack.

Thank you for your quick response and for the above steps.

on the first two stacks they have valn 10 and now on the new stack they want the same VLan 10.

After creating vlan 10 and assigining ip for it.

Can I trunk between the new stack to the other exisiting two stacks?

Because the new stack should go to the internet through the other stacks only.

Yes

Thanks leolaohoo..

Can I do HSRP on the 2960 S switches?

Because the other two stack switches have below configuration

interface vlan10

ip address10.82.23.2 255.255.255.0

no ip redirects

standby 0 ip 10.82.23.254

standby 10 preempt
