Aggregate links Nexus 3172TQ to Catalyst 4500x

I'm new to the Nexus switches and could use a little advice on link aggregation and QSFP+ to (4) SFP+ (QSFP-4SFP10G-CU5M cable).

I have a new Nexus 3172TQ that will be installed as a top of rack switch and will uplink to my core Catalyst 4500x via breakout cable above.  I see once I set the speed to 10000 on one of the QSFP+ ports it breaks it out into (4) 10 GB interfaces instead of (1) 40 GB. The Nexus will serve about 90% VMWare ESXi and 10% bare metal servers.

My questions are:

  1. Do I just use a standard EtherChannel to connect these guys up?
  2. What's the best way to get the most throughput between these two?
  3. Any specific gotchas or best practices I should know about?
  4. The ESXi servers will be getting (4) 10GB interfaces each.  Any advice on how best to aggregate these to the Nexus would also be appreciated.  The ESXi native load balancing is pretty stinky.
