Hi !
We have an ASR1004 experiment slowness and when we look at the log we see multiple disk errors according to my previous research. I like to know if the router need to read on the disk other than at the boot time like if it's using a kind on page file/ swap file.....
%IOSXE-3-PLATFORM: R0/0: kernel: EXT2-fs: sda1 previous I/O error to superblock detected
%IOSXE-2-PLATFORM: R0/0: kernel: EXT2-fs error (device sda1): ext2_readdir: bad page in #xxxxxxxx
%IOSXE-3-PLATFORM: R0/0: kernel: EXT2-fs: sda1 previous I/O error to superblock detected
%IOSXE-2-PLATFORM: R0/0: kernel: EXT2-fs error (device sda1): ext2_readdir: bad page in #xxxxxxxx
%IOSXE-3-PLATFORM: R0/0: kernel: EXT2-fs: sda1 previous I/O error to superblock detected
%IOSXE-2-PLATFORM: R0/0: kernel: EXT2-fs error (device sda1): ext2_readdir: bad page in #xxxxxxxx
Thanks

This is a valid question. "Autogenerated Files": Core files, trace files, lost+found files, crash files and logs are saved on the harddisk plus supporting applications that require a harddisk.
"The true intent of the HDD is to support applications that require a harddisk. Therefore the HDD IDC on Cisco ASR 1001 Router should be used for application services such as call manager, etc."

I think you are hitting this bug CSCtr57275.
The failure of hard disk throws out continuous errors on the console about bad sector
Conditions:
In the rare event that a hard disk drive (HDD) fails, under some failure scenarios it can result in the system not properly handling the condition and emitting repeated sequences of the following messages to the console:
Jan 1 05:09:07.429: %IOSXE-2-PLATFORM: R0/0: kernel: EXT2-fs error (device sda1): ext2_readdir: bad page in #393217
.Jan 1 05:09:32.385: %IOSXE-2-PLATFORM: R0/0: kernel: EXT2-fs error (device sda1): ext2_readdir: bad page in #393217
Workaround:
No known workaround.

Hi !
I was already understood that the disk should be replaced, my question was more for what the disk is used for after the router has complete it's booting process ?
is it part of encryption algorithm, pageging file, any other ? I the disk failure can explain degrade performance we have and how can it be explained ?
Thanks !
