ASIC temperature on 6509-V-E Quad SUP VSS

Hi guys,

I have a pair of Cisco 6509-V-E chassis running Quad SUP VSS with VS-S720-10G. I have found that the ASIC temperature on the SUP engine is running hotter compared to a Dual SUP VSS setup, especially for the active SUP engine.

I have no idea if this is something which should be concern about as the temperature is still within threshold. But the ASIC temperature is running hot even when the VSS is not in production yet and it has very low management traffic.

Currently switch 2 module 5 SUP is the active SUP, and switch 1 module 5 SUP is the standby SUP. Please refer below for the active SUP ASIC temperature.

#sh environment alarm thresholds switch 2

switch 2 module 5 asic-1 temperature: 70C
  threshold #1 for switch 2 module 5 asic-1 temperature:
(sensor value >= 90C) is system minor alarm
  threshold #2 for switch 2 module 5 asic-1 temperature:
(sensor value >= 105C) is system major alarm
switch 2 module 5 asic-3 temperature: 47C
  threshold #1 for switch 2 module 5 asic-3 temperature:
(sensor value >= 95C) is system minor alarm
  threshold #2 for switch 2 module 5 asic-3 temperature:
(sensor value >= 110C) is system major alarm
switch 2 module 5 asic-4 temperature: 74C
  threshold #1 for switch 2 module 5 asic-4 temperature:
(sensor value >= 95C) is system minor alarm
  threshold #2 for switch 2 module 5 asic-4 temperature:
(sensor value >= 110C) is system major alarm

I have also attached the complete output for both chassis.

Appreciate if any one could share their thoughts.

Regards

Hi,

As long as the temperature is within the limits its fine.

How ever ensure that you have fillers installed in all empty slots and also nothing is blocking the airflow.

Thanks,

Madhu
