I have a 3560-x connected to a 6509.  On the 6509 i have vlan 30 with ip 10.10.10.1/24.  The interface between the 6509 and the 3560 is access assigned vlan 30.  The 3560-x is using fa0 in routed mode and IP = 10.10.10.2/24.  I can't ping across this interface even thoguh everything shows up/up and I see CDP neigh.  What am I missing?

Thanks

When you say you can't ping "across" it, what exactly do you mean ?

The fa0 port is for management only, you cannot route through it to other ports on the 3560.

Jon

fa0 is connected to the access port on the 6509.  the 6509 has vlan 30 ans the 3560fa0 has IP on same subnet.  I can't ping from 3560 to 6509.

Can you ping from the 6500 to the 3560 ?

Jon

no

When you ping from either switch what do the arp tables show ?

Jon

incomplete

Can you post relevant configs.

Jon

This is the 6509:

interface GigabitEthernet9/47
 description fa0
 switchport
 switchport access vlan 30
 switchport mode access
 no snmp trap link-status
 spanning-tree portfast network

interface Vlan30
 description Nexus Mgmt IP address
 vrf forwarding Mgmt-intf
 ip address 10.217.225.129 255.255.255.0
 no ip redirects
 no ip unreachables
 standby 30 ip 10.217.225.254
 standby 30 priority 110
standby 30 preempt delay minimum 300

This is the 3560-X:

interface FastEthernet0
 description g9/47
 ip address 10.217.225.167 255.255.255.0
 no ip route-cache
 no ip mroute-cache
end

When you ping from the 6500 are you using this command -

ping vrf Mgmt-intf 10.217.225.167

Jon

yes

Can't see anything wrong with it.

What I would do is temporarily use a /30 subnet and assign gi9/47 on the 6500 as a routed port and see if you can ping then.

Jon

We are changing ports from fa0.

Thanks for all suggestions

I think you best option is to listen to tporembski.  He said that fa0 is not routeable.  Try using a different port on the 3560x and see if that suits you better.
