bridge-group between Catalyst 6500 and Nexus 7K

Hi,

I have a pair of Catalyst 6500 Switch which supports Layer 2 and Layer 3 functionality. We have SVI created for vlans let's say vlan 4, vlan 5 on these 6500 Switches. Now i want to migrate these SVI over to Nexus 7K Switch. Please note the Catalyst 6500 and Nexus 7K are connected with Single sided VPC ? But N7K already has SVI for vlan 4 and vlan 5.So i cann't simply just migrate these SVI to Nexus 7k from Catalyst 6500.

So i want to Migrate vlan 4 in Cat 6500 as vlan 1004 in Nexus 7k and vlan 5 in Cat 6500 as vlan 1005 in Nexus 7K.

So what i did was: we created a BVI on Catalyst 6500 and configure the bridge-group but still i am not able to ping the host connected to 7K with vlan 1004.

This is what i configured on Catalyst 6500

interface Vlan4
ip address 192.168.75.1 255.255.255.0
bridge-group 1
!
interface Vlan1004
ip address 192.168.76.1 255.255.255.0

bridge-group 1
!
bridge 1 protocol vlan-bridge
bridge 1 priority 8192

One host is in Vlan 4 and connected to Cat 6500 side and other host is in vlan 1004 and connected to Nexus 7K. Is there anyway i can make this work so that host in vlan 4 on Catalyst 6500 side can communicate with the host in vlan 1004 on Nexus side.

Please let me kknow if you have already done this or encountered this issue.

Thanks

Why not stick with VLAN 4 on the N7K and migrate SVI's as normal. You can use secondary address on the svi.

I don't think there is a need for VL1004 if hosts need to communicate with each other in both VLANs

Hi Bilal,

I understand what you are saying but SVI for vlan 4 already exists on N7K which already has few secondary ip addresses so i don't want to make even bigger broadcast domain by adding another secondary ip address.

How are they tied together ?  You can't just  trunk those vlans between the boxes ?   Or are you running a routing protocol between those 2 boxes ?
