Broadcast Storm Connecting Cisco - HP

Hi Guys,

I have to connecting 6506 cisco and HP Switch tomorrow and the issue is that CISCO is mine but HP is from other provider. Anybody knows how check a broadcast storm in my core 6506? Beacuse I think that HP don't accept Rapid PVST and can to happen a broadcast storm.

I had thought in check the arp-cache only but I would like have others commands.

Thanks for all,

Hello.

Basically you need command storm-control - Traffic Storm Control.

But if you doubt that your peer (HP switch) supports Span-tree protocol, then it's REALLY BAD idea to extend L2 network to it! In this case you need to think about some other options, like:

  • use interconnection via routed interfaces (if L3 is possible);
  • use standby interfaces (if L2 is required).

PS: my personal experience was with HP blade switches; and they were good in MST (not STP/RSTP)!
