Hi all,
In the Catalyst 2960 and 2960-S Software Configuration Guide, 12.2(55)SE the chapter 34 describes the way to configure *static* unicast routes.
This is a new feature that was introduced in the 12.2(55)SE version.
I have a C2960G with LAN Base image and the routing works fine.
My question is with the new 2960-S: do I have to get the LAN Base as well or can I go with the LAN Lite version ?
In the Q&A section concerning the 2960 and 2960-S it is stated that the differences between the LAN Base and LAN Lite switches are the following:
A LAN Base switches support these hardware components:
But it doesn't say anything about the routing capability... What do you think ?
Thanks !

Hey,
LAN Base is required for unicast routing on 2960-S. Setting the SDM template to 'sdm prefer lanbase-routing' is required and that template only applies to LAN Base models.
"Before enabling routing, enter the sdm prefer lanbase-routing global configuration command and reload the switch"
"The SDM template used by Catalyst 2960-S running LAN Lite image is a default templates and is not configurable. Catalyst 2960-S switches running the LAN base image support only a default template and the lanbase-routing template"
Hope this helps,
/Phil

I was able to get one 2960-S LAN Lite and as you said, the SDM template can't be configured. So I have my answer.
Thanks for your precisions!
