C3750 and 2960 Switches

I am currently having 2 two WS-C3750X-48P-S switches staked and connected to Cisco 2911 IP Router.

As more users are adding to the site, we need set up two more access switches in another room.

We have many 2960 switches in other sites, and can I use same?

Could you please suggest possible best options.

Hi there,

You will probably have limited spare switchport capacity on your router, so you should therefore configure your 3750X stack as your network core switch and use the router just as a boundary router to the internet. Move all subnet gateway configuration onto the 3750X stack.

Connect any additional 2960 switches to the 3750X with Ethernet port-channels. If some of your 2960X stacks are further than 100 metres away then consider buying 4x 1G Network modules which will allow you to use SFPs and extend the distance between the core switch and access layer. Ensure any port-channels have their member links spread across both 3750X chassis.

cheers,

Seb.

Hi,

Thank you very much, it sounds  good.

I am also considering to get another MPLS circuit on same router. [now that router is used only for internet].

will there be any issues? (or) should I refresh the router to like 4331?

Please suggest.

The throughput is pretty limiting on the 2911 so would likely need a beefier router if plugging in an internet circuit also, a 4000 series router should be enough.

Hi,

As I am not sure how to switches (WS-C3750X-48P-S) are configured? Are you using a core switch and having all VLAN routering on this stack or on the router.

If you are using this stack as Core switch then you can connect 2960 switches in the downside as access switches with using the port-channel.

Regards,
Deepak Kumar,
