C3850G-48P Stack

StarLog
Level 1
Level 1

I have a stack of 3 switches all are on ver. 16.6.4 - We received one switch back on RMA, due to it being defective.
Made sure the s/w version is the same on all switches, and then cabled them back up with stack-T1-1M stackwise 480 cables.

I did not have a copy of the running config, in the RMA'd switch. The other 2 switches are running the config that was in before the failure. When I powered up the stack, the 2 others switches show up, but the new switch is not in the sh mod :
PD_2nd_FL_C3850G_SW#sh mod

1 56 WS-C3850-48F-L FOC2241L1MP 7035.0917.4800 V07 16.6.4
2 56 WS-C3850-48F-L FOC2241L1LV 7035.0917.8180 V07 16.6.4
What should I do to make it active, I thought the stack would automatically push the config from one of the other working switches to the new switch.

Primary and secondary stacking cables are missing.  Maybe someone did not install them or something thinks the screws at the end of the stacking cable heads are just for "decorations".

When you boot up connect console and post complete log, or post show logging all the output.

Remove the OLD switch from stack - connect the console cable once it boot up   change the  switch member number and priority   (as  old like switch number 3 with priority 13)

you also need to correct exiting switch priority

example :

switch 1 priority 15
switch 2 priority 14
switch 3 priority 13

write and reload.

If the entire stack is in Install Mode, try this:

conf t
 software auto-upgrade enable
end
wr

And then join the new switch member to the stack and leave it alone for about 10 minutes.  The stack master should push the existing firmware and packages down to the new switch member automatically.

Hi Leo,

I did not no change, but this is what I see on the 2 original switches:
PD_2nd_FL_C3850G_SW#sh sw stack-por
Switch# Port1 Port2
----------------------------
1             OK       DOWN
2             DOWN  OK
3              DOWN DOWN

Primary and secondary stacking cables are missing.  Maybe someone did not install them or something thinks the screws at the end of the stacking cable heads are just for "decorations".

These stacking cables were pulled off by my manager, and so I reinstalled them on these 3 switches.
I need to find out why they are not working, then everything should work as designed.

Thanks

Leo,

Found that we had one bacd stacking cable, all is good.

Thanks to all for the help.
