c4948-c3550-24 half/10 issue

Hello,

I noticed a problem with connecting host to c3550-24 or c3550-48 through 10/half duplex. When In the network there is cisco catalyst c4948E.

Let’s say that there is a network like on the diagram number  1.

Diagram1.   C4948E -------1G---c3550-12G------1G---- c3550-24/48 ---- 10/half --- host1

Case 1.

If I want to ping from c4948E to host1, I ‘can because I see input errors on c3550-24/48. One icmp ping – one FCS error.

Actually   I see FCS errors. It‘s very strange because in the same time I can ping from c3550-12G without any problems.     In both tests I see icmp request on host1 but only icmp replay on c3550-12G.

Case2.

The topology exactly the same  but the connection between c3550-24 /48 is 100/half or full.

I don’t have any problems. I’m able to do ping .

I do a lot of tests and the results are the same. I’m wondering why I can’t from c4948E to host1.

I suppose there is a bug in IOS on c3550-24/48 I tested a few version and the results were the same.

Maybe somebody have the same experiences?

Hi Rico,

Check if 4948 MAC address starts with 5 ( 5xxx.xxxx.xxxx). You may hit the follwoing HW DDTS:

There is not SW fix for that - it is HW limitation of that platform.
