Hi dear community.
i'm not able to find precise answer for this. here is my question :
on a C9200L-48P-4G with 4x 1G fixed uplinks, are we able to connect a SFP+ 10G LR gbic to those 1G fixed SFP ports?
we are pulling single mode fibers between new infra (10G) and old infra (1G) and I wonder if SFP+ gbics will be recognised by C9200L with 1G fixed uplinks. I know we will not have 10G link but 1G would be good enough.
Can we use those SFP+ gbics or are we forced to purchase some SFP 1G LX in this case?
Thank you for your help

The ports will only support SFP (1 Gbps) optics.

"The Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series is made up of modular (C9200), fixed (C9200L) and compact (C9200CX) switch models."
In fact Cisco does not explain clearly what fixed uplinks means but we can suppose, based on the diffferent models and the word "fixed", that if you buy 9X00L you need to deal with what the switch offer.
9200L-XXX-4G = 1Giga
Or you can buy
9200L-XXX-4X = 4x 1/10G

Hi everyone.
thank you for your answers.
10G core switchs are C9300X-24Y-E models with modules C9300-NM-8X
is this supposed to handle multigigabit?
10G Layer 2 switchs are C9200L-48P-4X-E.
old infra if mainly having C9200L-48P-4G-E and some C2960X
thank you.

Hello @GCT Network
As concerned C9300X-24Y-E models with modules C9300-NM-8X
Support height 1/10Gbps uplinls ports thanks to the module C9300-NM-8X card.
Find here SFP/SFP+ compatibility: https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/?si=C9300-NM-8X
As concerned the downlinks port, the model C9300X-24Y-E support 24 ports 1/10/25 Gbps.

". . . are we able to connect a SFP+ 10G LR gbic to those 1G fixed SFP ports?"
Sure can.
Will they work though?
Nope.
Ports need to be SPF+, then you can use either gig or 10g SFPs.
This question is somewhat the inverse of that you can connect a Cat3 RJ45 cable to a 10/100/1000 RJ45 port, but it's not going to run at gig.
As other replies has already noted, if there's other models, with SFP+ ports, then you can use either gig or 10g SPFs. However, although I don't believe it applies to the 9k series, some earlier switches could use a pair of uplink ports running at gig but only one of them running at 10g and its pair mate not running at all.
