Anybody know what this error means? I can't find anything searching but the switch seems to be working OK.

I have not seen that before, but I seached the internet for "CamMiss exception" and found a ton of hits.

Looks to be possibly failing hardware:

I can't find a lot about it..Just that one thread you listed..Strange part is it staretd today when I enabled a 2nd uplink to the core. We had to replace a blade in the 6509 so early in the week I had shut one port down and brought it back up after I swapped the blade..Thats when the error started.

Hi Jimmy,

Regarding the below error message,

"CamMiss exception in port-asic 3"

The error message is printed when the TCAM lookup fails because of a fault with TCAM programming or hardware error with  TCAM itself .

++ There are some internal bugs related to this on  12.2(53)SE1.

I am not sure which version of IOS you are running on the switch.

Could you please check is there any port-asic exceptions?

"show platform port-asic exception" command will indicate that.

If you see the error message continuously then it is a indication of bad hardware and it needs to be replaced.

Hope this answers your question.

Cheers

Somu, it is running 12.2 (46)

I did run the command but not sure what this output means?

It just started and the switch seems to be running normal other then this alert every few seconds.

Thanks in advance

Thanks, I can't open the bug but can you tell if this is a bug that is going to cause a switch failure or just a pain in the rear log? Reason I am asking is rebooting this switch will require a outage on some key server but if the switch is failing I will get that stuff moved ASAP.  Thanks in advance, unlike most logs I was hitting a dead end.

Hi

I can see in most of the cases it is an indication of hardware failure and replacement of the device fixed the issue.

However i would suggest upgrading the IOS to the latest version and if we see the error message again then the device can be replaced.

Cheers
