Hello All,

I would like to know if a SPAN (mirroring) port can also passes users' traffic. I know that its being busy monitoring those traffic but can it also work as normal access port. Is there a feature in the new IOS to configure a port to act both access and monitoring port in the same time?

Appreciate your help. :)

Hi

Yes, you can use the 'ingress' keyword on the monitor destination command.

Hi,

SPAN ports that monitor traffic cannot forward packets. There is no feature that enables the span destination port to behave as a normal access port too. Please see the link below for more details.

HTH,

Hi,

Thanks but what the ingress keyword that Aaron talked about does?

Thx

The "ingress" keyword in the monitor session is to monitor the incoming packets on the interface and to forward it to the destination interface.

HTH,

Roopa

Hi Roopa

It's not.

the 'rx' 'tx' and 'both' keywords specify which direction of traffic is monitored.

'ingress' - well.. read the manual.

Mr Turbo_Engine26 - if in doubt, test it or google what is suggested.
