Hi!
I have 2 Catalyst 6880-X-LE that I want to get them into VSS. The problem is that I cant because one of the chassis have IOS version15.1(2)SY4a and the other one Version 15.2(1)SY.
I have being trying to upgrade the one on version 15.1, and in every documentation I´ve checked says that you have to set the bootvar with this command:
boot system flash bootdisk:c6880x-ipservicesk9-mz.SPA.152-1.SY.bin
The problem is that there is no option in the catalyst for the keyword "flash", the options only allow to boot the IOS from an FTP server. I even looked into the configuration guide of the 15.1 version of IOS and the command with the keyword flash is suppose to be supported.
Here is the output for the catalyst when I try to put the command:
SREP7-CORP-VSS(config)#$tdisk:c6880x-ipservicesk9-mz.SPA.152-1.SY.bin
boot system flash bootdisk:c6880x-ipservicesk9-mz.SPA.152-1.SY.bin
^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
SREP7-CORP-VSS(config)#
And this are the only options that I get after the keyword "system":
SREP7-CORP-VSS(config)#boot system ?
WORD TFTP filename or URL
ftp Boot from a server via ftp
mop Boot from a Decnet MOP server
rcp Boot from a server via rcp
tftp Boot from a tftp server
Can someone help me with the steps or a work around to upgrade the IOS.
Thanks

The documentation is incorrect (if it says 'boot system flash...'). Use boot system location:filename to boot it up.

Hi,
Ok. I am not very sure. But to rule out any possibility of bug, if the IOS is already inside. Break the process to rommon and issue the boot command from there and see if the new IOS resolves the problem?
Or may be boot from the USB

Thanks Aninda,
I did that and I had to save the config in order to change the bootvar.

Hi,
I think the issue might also be cosmetic...make sure you have the frontslash (/) after the colon (:)...caught me with that one...
example
boot system bootdisk:/c6880x-adventerprisek9-mz.SPA.151-2.SY4a.bin
Hope this helps.
Ciao
