Thanks All,

If the VSS is configured then we can't configure HSRP between Standby VSS and Active VSS

The VSS Switch is seen as one logical switch, I am not sure how you would configure HSRP between them. Unless you have a split brain senario?

thank you

Hello @Sudqi ,

VSS builds a single logical entity and actually eliminates the need of HSRP on each SVI.,

with VSS you define the SVI on the current master , the current master supervisor is the only one to speak with outside world unless the VSS link is broken and no Dual ACtive Detection link is implemented.

You should be fine with a dual active detection dedicated link and method for example using BFD or Fast hellos

The SVI will never be active on the standby supervisor until it moved to master state taking over.

in case of failure of the VSS link/port channel the standby sup will check the DAD link if it reiceves messages from the master sup it will stay in standby state (disabling the data links on the chassis)  if even the DAD link does not receive messages the standby SUP can safely assume the active sup has troubles or it has been powered and it will move to active state.

Hope to help

Tnanks for your replay

so if I should configure HSRP, this should be before adding a VSS configuration between them,

is there a method to do the HSRP even VSS was configured?

Thank You

Hi,

I don't think it is recommended to do any configuration before the VSS, and HSRP does not do anything for you when you are running VSS.

If you have another router you want to take over the Default Gateway function if the entire VSS Stack goes down, then that is possible with HSRP.

There is nothing stopping you from configuring HSRP on a VSS setup, but as the VSS stack is only seen as one switch you would not have a secondary HSRP peer.

Hello @Sudqi ,

we can't configure it , but you don't need it as the redundancy service provided by HSRP (FHRP) is already provided by VSS technology

Hope to help
