Can we mix WS-C3750V2-24PS-S and WS-C3750-24PS-S in the same stack

I am not on site and I have not seen a WS-C3750V2-24PS-S.

Customer has a stack of 6 x WS-C3750V2-24PS-S and one unit has failed. We do not have a WS-C3750V2-24PS-S spare. Can we replace it with a standard WS-C3750-24PS-S (not V2) switch and be part ofthe stack.

1. Are there any traps gotchas?

2. What about IOS versions - aren't they different for V2 switches

3. Are the stack ports and stack cables same for both    WS-C3750V2-24PS-S and WS-C3750-24PS-S

4. What is the main reason for bringing out the V2 switches. What features do they have extra?

Alphonse

Hi Astanislaus,

This is the information of the Switch :

4) The Cisco Catalyst 3750 v2 Series are next-generation energy-efficient Layer 3 Fast Ethernet stackable switches. These new switches support Cisco EnergyWise technology, which helps you manage the power consumption of your network, thereby reducing energy costs and carbon footprint.

The Cisco Catalyst 3750 v2 Series consumes less power than its predecessors and is an ideal access layer for enterprise, retail, and branch environments. It helps increase productivity and protects your network investment by providing a unified network for data, voice, and video.

3) Cisco StackWise® technology is a stacking architecture optimized for Gigabit Ethernet. This technology is designed to respond to additions, deletions, and redeployment while maintaining constant performance. Cisco StackWise technology unites up to nine individual switches in a single logical unit, using special stack-interconnect cables and stacking software. The individual switches can be any combination of Cisco Catalyst 3750, 3750 v2, and 3750-E Series Switches. The stack behaves as a single switching unit that is managed by a master switch, chosen from one of the member switches. The master switch automatically creates and updates all the switching and optional routing tables. A working stack can accept new members or delete old ones without service interruption.

2) You need to put a compatilbeIOS version in your 3750 or the same IOS version.

The stack cable it's the same.

Plesa rate is it help.

Mauricio

I have the same problem.

What is a compatible IOS for the C3750 so that I can add the C3750V2?

Currently my WS-C3750-24PS-S has "IOS (tm) C3750 Software (C3750-I9-M), Version 12.2(20)SE4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)"

and the WS-C3750V2-24PS-S has 12.2(50) SE5.

Yes.  You can add mix stackes of 3750/3750G/3750E/3750X together.  You MUST ensure all stack members are running the same IOS version and the same feature set.

Gotcha!

1.  Now, the plain 3750 alone comes in two different "flavours":  16 mb and 32 mb flash memory.  The "v2" needs a minimum of 12.2(50)SE1 IOS.  So which means the plain 3750 IOS needs to be upgraded to "catch up" to whatever IOS the "v2" has.  (No, you CANNOT downgrade the IOS of the "v2" to anything lower than the what I've mentioned because this will render your "v2" into a useless door stopper.)

2.  If your 3750 comes with a 16 mb flash memory, this means that you can upgrade UP TO the IOS version of 12.2(55)SE and later (SE1, SE2, SE3, SE4 and the latest SE5).  With 16 mb flash, you CANNOT upgrade to 12.2(58)SE or 15.0(1)SE.

Hi Mauricio,

will the stack modules be on board of 3750V2-24PS-S or should we procure this stack module separately? the reason why am asking is, the customer already has an 3750V2 in spare but not sure if stack modules are present or not.
