Cat 500 in office environment - noise?

Hello everyone

I'm working on a network design which is calling for small PoE workgroup switches in an small cabinet located in an office with people working. We've rejected the 3560 switches due to physical size (too big) and excessive fan noise. What I'd like to know is how much noise do the 500 series catalyst switches emit?

Is there anyone out there using 500's that can comment on how quiet they are and whether or not they are OK for office workers sitting right next to them.

Hello Kerry,

Please find the acoustic noise levels for 3560/cat 500 (from datasheet)

3560- min 42 dba, max 58 dba (for Gig switch)

cat500- min 42 dba , max 48 dba..

so i guess the noise emitted will almost be the same... really not sure if you can reduce these !!!!! thats why it is always a best practice to keep such devices on the datacenter !!!!
