Catalyst 1000: cannot login

Hi everyone,

I just unpacked a Cisco Catalyst 1000 (8 port) switch and tried to run setup (this is my first cisco switch). When connected to my network, the switch receives an IP address and I can reach a webserver via https, however, the standard user/password combination (cisco/cisco) does not work. Pressing the reset button when the switch is only connected to a stand-alone PC is also not working (switch does not act as dhcp server). Can anyone help?

you need to configure the password first from the console

the switch has a serial console port and a usb console port

if you do not have a serial-to-usb converter you can connect a USB to mini-usb cable to access the console

(maybe you need to install install the Cisco serial driver)
