Same issue, fresh lab switch. I ran the command exactly as you suggested "archive download-sw /overwrite tftp://TFTP_SERVER_IP_ADDRESS/IOS_filename.TAR" several times, and still the same issue. Reset IE, emptied temp files, tried from another PC that has never reached the switch, and have tried different firmware versions as well. All boot, but this issue persists...
Any suggestions?

Me bad. I actually didn't see this error message.
So the gist is the switch is a 2960L but the IOS being forced is for the 2960X.

Hi,
What is your issue, The screenshot which you attached are looking everything correct.

I possibly had this same issue, for me the WEBUI software update method didn't apply the "boot system" commands to point to the new iOS.
I had to navigate the html configuration directories in the browser to apply the boot system command for the correct iOS version.
/level/15/exec/-/configure
/level/15/exec/-/configure/http
/level/15/configure/-/boot
/level/15/configure/-/boot/system
/level/15/configure/-/boot/system/flash:\/c2960l-universalk9-mz.152-7.E2\/c2960l-universalk9-mz.152-7.E2.bin

For anyone else having this issue: Downloading a fresh tar file from Cisco and running the command:
archive download-sw /overwrite tftp://TFTP_SERVER_IP_ADDRESS/IOS_filename.TAR
After it completes, reload the switch and the web interface will re-appear. I'm sure it doesn't matter but I made sure to keep the filename the same.

WTF! Someone manually installed the HTML sub-directory.
That ain't going to work.
Re-install the firmware by using the command "archive download-sw /overwrite tftp://TFTP_SERVER_IP_ADDRESS/IOS_filename.TAR".

I have the same issue the second time.
I have just tried to install the newest version of the firmware on my 2960L 8TS. It is the version E3. I managed this with the web UI of the Cisco. But something went wrong because the progress window was shown over the whole night and did not find an end. After about 10 hours I have stopped the process. Now, when I type the IP adress of the switch in the browser only a text comes up. When I try to enter the web UI it is said that the page was not found.
I have installed the SolarWind TFTP Server software on my desktop and started the service. I have copied the newest Version of the Cisco firmware for the 2960L in the root directory of the TFTP Server. After entering the command archive download-sw /overwrite tftp://TFTP_SERVER_IP_ADDRESS/IOS_filename.TAR the following error is displayed:
Could not buffer tarfile...using multiple downloads examining image stack version... %Error opening tftp://192.168.178.40/c2960l-universalk9-tar.152-7.e3.tar (Timed out) %Error opening flash:update/info (No such file or directory) ERROR: Image is not a valid IOS image archive. examining image... %Error opening tftp://192.168.178.40/c2960l-universalk9-tar.152-7.e3.tar (Timed out) %Error opening flash:update/info (No such file or directory) ERROR: Image is not a valid IOS image archive.

After going back to version E2 I have tried to update to E3 another time. I have started the update with the web ui. I was told that the update was successful. After restarting the switch, the header of the web ui is not displayed correctly. Here is a screenshot of the new header:
Does anyone have a hint how to repair?

@ChristianSteffens1981, were you able to resolve this issue in the mean time? I'm facing the same issue (with c1000-universalk9-mz.152-7.E3k) and would appreciate any hint.

Edit: Resetting to day 0 state and replaying initial setup restored the proper rendering of the header in the Web UI

I have gone back to version E2. That works fine. This version is also recommended by Cisco.

I have installed E4. The update process ended with "successful". After restarting the switch and entering the ip in the browser I am told to enter the login and password, but after that the screen is empty: no graphic web interface and no text based web interface - only an empty screen. Do you have any ideas how to solve this problem?
Before E4 I have had E2. With E3 I have had the issues mentioned above.
Thanks for help in advance!

Had to erase configuration:
write erase
