Catalyst 3650 - Not booting or console after update.

Whitey436

Model: 3650-48PD

Copied 16.7 Latest Gibralter Cisco has available

Non stacked single unit, 2 10G fiber transceivers, 40 1 G ports populated.  Used in a classroom.

Unit has worked great since bought new 6 years ago.

Copied .BIN into Flash then copied into Bootflash

Console showed it unpacking, then asked about 'applying it or similar question'

After typing yes, never came back up.

No console output since reboot, only LED action is Stack flashes fast green as soon as it turns on or power is applied.

Tried using 9600, N, 8,1 No Flow control. Switched to 115400 same.

Held Mode button in for 15-30 seconds during power up makes no difference. Mode button does click so it is seemingly functional.

Same PC and cabling for console connection as was in place prior to update.

It appeared that the unpacking completed since it asked another question and then nothing.

Post the entire boot-up process.

There is no bootup process.

"No console output since reboot, only LED action is Stack flashes fast green as soon as power is applied."

Contact TAC and organize for an RMA.

NOTE:
Cisco Catalyst 3650 comes with Cisco Enhanced Limited Lifetime Hardware Warranty.  There is no need to "buy" any warranty to RMA the appliance because it is already included in the purchase.

Thanks for the info on warranty.I'll reach out.

I get that this website shows me as a Beginner however..

I find it hard to believe that this device can be made useless by installing an update, ie. assuming it validates the firmware before committing it.

It can happen to just about anyone.

At least there is still some hardware warranty left before end-of-sale date.

Contacted Cisco, they said sorry we cannot offer any support on this unit.

They said not under warranty, I mentioned the link that Leo posted.  He said sorry nothing we can do.

If I had not updated to they version they posted, this unit would still be working.

Anyone else have any ideas how to bring this back from the 'digital dead'?

Send an email to TAC.  Make sure to provide the following information:

  1. Serial number of the unit.
  2. Proof of purchase (Purchase Order) or delivery (delivery docket/note)
  3. Prepare the link to the Warranty section

Do not contact them by phone because the call gets routed differently.
