Catalyst 3850-48P IOS Upgrade

Hello,

I tried to upgrade one of our 3850 switches from 3.7.2 to 3.7.5 but ran into a issue. I followed the recommended procedures installing from a usb drive. The problem is I can see the file on usbflash0:, it says it is copying to flash: successfully when I issue the command, however, when I look in dir flash: or sh flash: the file is not there. Of course I reload and the switch has no IOS to load (and I failed to make a backup). Now, the only way to access the full switch config is to boot of the usb drive. I have even tried a different install file with no change. I am not sure how to fix this.

Since the file is named 'y' during the file copy procedure the switch has prompted you for a destination filename and you have pressed 'y' for yes.

The copy syntax should be:

copy usbflash:<filename> flash:

...just keep pressing enter, and it will make the destination filename the same as the source.

cheers,

Seb.

Hi there,

The flash filesystem whilst in ROMMON is read-only. If you can boot from the usbdrive, then once IOS has loaded, copy the new file to flash, update the boot system variable, wr mem and reload.

cheers,

Seb.

I execute the command to copy the image to flash, it goes through and says it copied the file, but it is not listed in the directory.

Can you share with us the exact command you are typing to copy the file?

cheers,

Seb.

Hi
can you copy the image from USB to the flash now since you have it brought up by USB ? copy usb: image flash: image
and copy startup config to the flash too off the usb or whatever config file its booting to work , does it work that way , keep it up by USB until you see everything in flash

I execute the command to copy the image to flash, it goes through and says it copied the file, but it is not listed in the directory.

Looking in the flash directory, the path just says "y" instead of the proper file name.

could you post what you see please in flash so we can check it further

I use the copy usbflash0:filename.bin flash: command.

When I look in flash, this what I see:

frcsw1#sh flash:
-#- --length-- ---------date/time--------- path

Since the file is named 'y' during the file copy procedure the switch has prompted you for a destination filename and you have pressed 'y' for yes.

The copy syntax should be:

copy usbflash:<filename> flash:

...just keep pressing enter, and it will make the destination filename the same as the source.

cheers,

Seb.

A simple mistake screwed up so much.  Thanks for your help!
