Hi Everyone,
If a press the button UDI in the 3850, I can see the Beacon light blue to help the switch identification.
How can I turn on this blue led identifier using the command line ?
Thanks in Advanced

Below is the syntax for the blue beacon on 3850
To turn a blue beacon on in cli
Switch(config)#
hw-module beacon on switch 1
To turn a blue beacon off in cli
Switch(config)#
hw-module beacon off switch 1
From the actual switch
Switch(config)#hw-module beacon on switch 1
Switch(config)#
*Nov 14 14:10:43.358: %PLATFORM_LED-6-BEACON_LED_TURNED: Switch 1 Beacon LED turned ON
Switch(config)#hw-module beacon off switch 1
*Nov 14 14:10:52.374: %PLATFORM_LED-6-BEACON_LED_TURNED: Switch 1 Beacon LED turned OFF
Kind regards

I do not have a 3850 in front of me to play with, but have you tried any variations of 'locater-led' / 'no locator-led' that is a Cisco Nexus command for something similar. You could also try 'beacon' / 'no beacon'

Hi Neil,
Not all 3850 switches have this capabilities today. We started to introduce the blue beacon when we released the fiber models (S and XS).
You can find this note in the hardware installation guide
Table 11 UID/Beacon LED Indicator (Applies Only to the WS-C3850-12S, WS-C3850-24S , WS-C3850-12XS, and WS-C3850-24XS Switches)
I do believe the mGig based switches should have this as well, but I need to cross check to keep myself honest.
Kind regards,
Xavier

Hi Xavier,
Thank you for the prompt response and for the clarification. Is there any other way to identify a 3850 switch i.e getting all the LEDs to light up as it does when doing a P.O.S.T?

Neil

Hi Neil,
I'm not aware of any diagnostic command that could achieve this on a 3850 and the interface beacon is not available either.
In case I would come up with something I'll update this post.
Kind regards,
Xavier

thanks for that
I have different model of switch - 3650 with ios 16.3.3 on it
what would the command be for this box? regular "beacon" in the interface would not work
have tried hw-module beacon and no luck either
any suggestions?
many thanks
