PC connected to switch where also a server is connected. When pc idle for a few minutes then we loose connection. Not only to server but also eg. MSN. Strange thing is that if we connect remote via VPN to this server (and so pass the same switch), we don't have this issue. But I assume the VPN connection makes that their is no idle time.
Any suggestion on how to troubleshoot or what to look for?
Thanks,

Does the server lose the connection (connected on the same switch, right?) or just the PC?
Could it be the PC has some Power Management feature that disables the NIC as X amount of minutes of idle time?
As far as I know, switches don't have timer for disconnecting devices.

Yes they are connected on the same switch (that is, not necessarly but we tested by putting them on the same switch with the same result.
PC looses connection to the server but strange things is if they connect from outside over the internet (with same pc) to the server, they are not disconnected.
I really have no clue what could cause this.

oh forgot, no it's nothing with NIC disabled, we checked that.
