check current processor

hi,

Is there a way to check the current installed processor and its capacity on a cisco switch.

I had checked the show version and output we get is

cisco WS-C3560G-24TS (PowerPC405) processor (revision D0) with 131072K bytes of memory.

Processor board ID FOC1336W4F1

Could we know whats the capaciy of

cisco WS-C3560G-24TS (PowerPC405) processor (revision D0) and if we need to upgrade it, what are the steps involved.

Our switch is like 89% utilized in terms of processing now.

thanks

Vivk

If you mean by "upgrade" replace the switch's CPU, that's not done.  Generally the whole switch would be upgraded (or on a chassis switch, perhaps a supervisor card).

If's very unusual to see a L2 or L3 switch with a very high CPU except when there's some "issue".  The reason being, L2 and L3 switch off-load almost all data plane forwarding to dedicated ASICs, the CPU normally only deals with control plane needs.

On the 3560/3750 series, if TCAM resources are exceeded, some ASIC processing is then done by the CPU, which can overtax the latter.

What you might first do is search the main Cisco web site for troubleshooting high CPU utilization on the 3560/3750 series switches.

Yes, that switch servs many service providers, but I had seen it going down till 40 %  for may be 5 minutes and again spiking it back to 89%.

And I had taken the show tech-support output in both cases.

Do You mind to take a look at those logs?

thanks
