Child policy: "stand-alone service-policy is not allowed in class"

I got this error recently when applying a child service policy (marking) to a parent policy class (marking).

"stand-alone service-policy is not allowed in class"

Config works fine on 12.4, 12.4T on 7200 and 3845, but on a 6504-E, SUP32, 12.2(33)SXF, it complains of this error.

I've searched everywhere and it almost seems like no one has ever received this error before...

Any ideas?

r-dc-1-mpls(config-pmap)# class ABC_SITES_TEMPLATE1

r-dc-1-mpls(config-pmap-c)#  service-policy ABC_CE_LAN_INGRESS_POLICY1

stand-alone service-policy is not allowed in class

Hi Joe,

Hierarchical service-policies wouldn't be supported on a standard LAN module in a 6500, only on SIP or certain WAN interfaces.

From the config guide:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SXF/native/configuration/guide/qos.html#wp1481044

"PFC QoS does not support these policy map class commands:
service-policy"

ie. in config-pmap-c mode 'service-policy' is not allowed.

Hope this clarifies,

/Phil
