Cisco 1000BASE-T Problem

I had inserted 1000Base-T into 6516A-GBIC on Cat6509.

I had faced error message as follow.

%PM_SCP-SP-3-GBIC_BAD: Integrity check on GBIC in LAN port 3/16 failed: bad key

So I tried to search on CCO.

Thus, I found that URL comtained some information :

But I couldn't find information about the 6516A-GBIC matrix...

Could you please tell me the reason....

This is from the error decoder

1. %PM_SCP-3-GBIC_BAD: GBIC integrity check on port [dec]/[dec] failed: bad key

This message indicates that the GBIC has an incorrectly programmed EEPROM. [dec]/[dec] is the module and port.

Recommended Action: Copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log. Contact your Cisco technical support representative, and provide the representative with the gathered information.

Is this a Cisco GBIC or a third party gbic ?

I had tested by using Cisco GBIC.

So, the cisco GBICs are made by a third party and then programmed with Cisco specific code, specifically so that you have to buy cisco optics. It is possible that someone forgot to burn the cisco specific eeprom on the SFP (or someone RMAed a non-cisco SFP and just moved the sticker over).

Other than the eeprom there is no difference between the "cisco" sfp / gbics and the - in face some people offer a service where you ship them Finisar SFPs and they burn new eeprom to make it work in a cisco.

You can try the (undocumented command):

no errdisable detect cause gbic-invalid

(you many need to bounce the port / reload after doing this).

I have heard that this was pulled from newer version of IOS but have not verified that.
