Cisco 1811 Router keeps rebooting and Sys ok keeps flashing

jsandau

I am having a problem with a ciso 1811 router. The router keeps rebooting every 2 minutes or so. If I unplug everything form the router and power it on without any acat5 cable plugged into it it will stay on but the sys ok light will keep blinking, and if I plug a cat5 cable in then the router dosen't seem to recognize the cable. Any ideas what is happening? Thanks.

Nuts.  Contact Cisco TAC and get the router replaced.

Is this happening with on board ports or a module you have installed?

If it is happing with a module, take it out and try a different port

All the stuff in the router is factory default.

Here is more info. I tried to connect via consol cable and here is the output:

The the router reboots itself.

The checksum is incorrect.  It is possible the download or transfer to the router was corrupted. So, try downloading the IOS again and load it into the router again.

IOS is corrupted. You need to console to router and wait  about 3 minutes. After download new IOS from tftp using ROMMON commands. If new IOS will be ok, you have no issues.

Remember to find working IOS (you may download it from different router or cisco.com)

Do you have step by step instructions on how to do that? I don't know that much about the CLI or ROMMON. Also will I have to reconfigure the router once the new IOS is installed?

Something is not right.  IF the IOS is corrupted the router will go into ROMmon and STAY THERE.  If it constantly reboots then there's something else more sinister.

Can you post the entire bootup process please?

Here is the entire bnoot process:

I found this guide:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1828/prod_release_note09186a00800810f3.html

It seems pretty srtaight forward, but do I follow the instructiond for run from RAM installation or run for Flash installation?

Download the file again.  It's a software-caused crashed.

Otherwise, you can download the version previous and try that.

Same issue to an 1812 router, is stuck in Rommon, same software force crash message and variables.

This happened after an power outage.

Tried with another flash(4gb SanDisk - worked), downloaded the ISO several times through tftpdnld, same checksum error.

Any ideas on what could be the fault? the CF 64mb, the 128mb memory?

Is this a problem that could have fixed itself? The router was off over the weekend and today I turned it on to try and upload the ios, and the router booted normally before I uploaded the ios.

Is this a problem that could have fixed itself?

No it wouldn't.  I'm suspecting the IOS is corrupted or something.
