Hi, I have a new 2960XR switch (48 1G copper ports and 2 Ten Gig SFP+ ports). I need to configure uplink ports to a exiting switch using 1G fibre (multimode). Im using a 1G fibre SFP inserted in the Ten Gig SFP+ port. This appears to dynamically create a new port number Gi1/0/49 and I still have the original Ten1/0/1.
I'm assuming that all the configuration needs to be applied to this new port number Gi1/0/49. Can anyone confirm or point to some documentation that explains this.
The switch is 300 miles away with no remote access and I need to document the change process before going to site.

Port number—The interface number on the switch. The 10/100/1000 port numbers always begin at 1, starting with the far left port when facing the front of the switch, for example, gigabitethernet1/0/1 or gigabitethernet1/0/8. For a switch with 10/100/1000 ports and SFP module ports, SFP module ports are numbered consecutively following the 10/100/1000 ports.

Yes that is correct. I have a C2960S-48FPD and it exhibits the same behavior. With an SFP+ in it shows Te1/0/1, with an SFP it shows Gi1/0/49.
SFP:
Gi1/0/48 capgal-floor4-sw1 connected trunk a-full a-1000 10/100/1000BaseTX
Gi1/0/49 notconnect 230 auto auto 1000BaseSX SFP
Te1/0/2 9300-eval connected trunk full 10G SFP-10GBase-SR
SFP+:
Gi1/0/48 capgal-floor4-sw1 connected trunk a-full a-1000 10/100/1000BaseTX
Te1/0/1 notconnect 1 full 10G SFP-10GBase-SR
Te1/0/2 9300-eval connected trunk full 10G SFP-10GBase-SR
Also, here is a previous forum that deals with this issue:
Hope this helps
