Hi All ,
Stacking is done as per enclosed file.
top switch is switch 3 which is master which has stack priority of 15 (manually configured stack priority)
Middle switch is switch 2 which is a member switch and has stack priority of 13 (manually configured stack priority)
Bottom switch is switch 1 which is also a member switch and has stack priority of 14 ( (manually configured stack priority)
I would like to change stack priority of Switch 1 as 13 and switch 2 as 14 as it would be very easy to follow sequence when power down and power on of switches are planned during any power down activity at customer site.
If I change the stack priority of Switch 1 and Switch 2 manually and if I reboots stack switches , will there be any effect to switch 1 and switch 2.
After reboot will they get new priority as set ? any precautions to be taken care while changing stack priority of Switch 1 and Switch 2 manually.
And also we have stack cables connected to switch 1 and 2 but its showing as down..Stack cables are connected properly but still stack between switch 1 and switch 2 is down as below.
How to resolve stack issue between switch 1 and switch 2.
Customer Switch 1 #sh switch detail
H/W Current
Switch# Role Mac Address Priority Version State
----------------------------------------------------------
1 Member --------------- 14 3 Ready
2 Member --------------- 13 3 Ready
*3 Master -------------- 15 3 Ready
Stack Port Status Neighbors
Switch# Port 1 Port 2 Port 1 Port 2
--------------------------------------------------------
1 Down Ok None 3
2 Ok Down 3 None
3 Ok Ok 1 2
Thank you..

Hi,
There is no need to reboot the switches. There will not be any changes. Only thing you need to be aware if you are changing the switch number instead.
We still need to address why the port shows down.
This should be related to physical layer. Please check the stack cable if it working properly and the if the stack ports are not faulty.Previously, we had this issue we changed few cables and tried restarting worked once.
Other time there is no fault with the hardware or the cables, but it just would not join the stack. We need to RMA and try one old and one RMA switch to get it working.
From DOC
"You can change the priority value for a stack member by using the switch stack-member-number priority new-p riority-value global configuration command. For more information, see the “Setting the Stack Member Priority Value” section. Another way to change the member priority value is by changing the SWITCH_PRIORITY environment variable, as explained in the “Controlling Environment Variables” section.
The new priority value takes effect immediately but does not affect the current stack master. The new priority value helps determine which stack member is elected as the new stack master when the current stack master or the switch stack resets."

Thanks
