My company using 4500 as core switch, recently we plan to replace all the windows desktops with Apple computers.

in order to use Apple Bondour cross the vlans for the Apple devices discovery  (wired connection), i enabled ip multicast routing on the core and configure ip pim sparse-mode on each vlan.

anything else i need to configure?

thanks

Hello Robin,

unfortunately Apple Bonjour may use not routable multicast addresses for discovery as explained here

https://community.cisco.com/t5/switching/routing-multicast-apple-bonjour-specifically-in-routed-vlan-d/m-p/1504513

Over time Cisco has developed a feature to support Apple Bonjour but it can create big issues when configured (there is another thread open in routing forum with a user having C4500X with CPU crash when enabling it)

So be careful.

Edit:

you may need the following feature m DNS local gateway

check also this security  bullettin

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/csa/cisco-sa-20150325-mdns.html?dtid=osscdc000283

Hope to help

Giuseppe
