Step 1: copy the IOS image to the bootflash of active and the standby.
Switch# copy tftp: bootflash:<image>
Switch# copy tftp: slavebootflash:<image>

Step 2: Set the boot variable pointing to new image. Saving the running config on active
switch will synchronize the boot variable to the standby as well.
Switch# boot system flash bootflash:<image>
Switch# wr mem

Step 3: Upgrade the Standby switch at first. Standby switch will reload and it will come
with new image. There will not be any downtime as the active will be up and running.
Standby will come in RPR mode as there will be software version mismatch between Active
and standby switches.
Switch# redundancy peer reload

Step 4: Failover to standby which will reload the active and it will come up with new
version and it will be in SSO standby Hot. In this process, there will be downtime of 2-3
minutes.
Switch# redundancy force-switchover

Dear Leo/Inayath,

Thanks for the prompt response as always. But both of you mentioning coping files to bootflash: and slavebootflash: but in my case as I have 4 supervisor so do I only need to copy to primary sup of both the chassis.

Secondary sup on both chassis is in  "Provision" mode so if i copy to bootflash: and slavebootflash: will these also take image.

Thanks

so do I only need to copy to primary sup of both the chassis.

Of course, the IOS needs to be copied to all the supervisor cards, both primaries and both secondaries.
