Cisco 4500X VSS Recovery Failing after VSL failure

Hi ,

I am running VSS on a pair of Cisco 4500X switches. Whenever VSL links fail, the VSS successfully initiates SSO where the previous Active switch goes into recovery-mode and all its ports remain AMBER. When I restore the VSL links, the switch in recovery-mode does not reload to become the Standby switch. The ports on the recovery-mode switch remain AMBER all through and the fast-hello port on the active switch remains in a "down" "down" state.

When I manually reload the recovery-mode switch, it reboots as the Standby switch.

Could this be a software bug ?

4500x details are:

Hi,

That is normal behavior.  The switch in recovery mode doesn't reboot on it own.  You have to reboot it manually.

Hi Reza,

Can you tell if Cisco today has a command that causes the 4500x switch to auto-recover? I believe that this behavior of not having auto-recovery only happens with the 4500x switches.

if you want the peer to do auto reboot, please ensure during active standby synchronization have same synchronization. To do that from active core switch save the config and it will sync to the standby switch.. Usually if you need to do manual reboot on the recovery mode because it does not have the same config.
