Hello Fariha,
Here you have turned off switch 1 module 3 but in your show command, you are looking at module 2
In a VSS envirement you should use
show module switch 1 slot 2
Can you clarify?

When you do a 'show power switch 1' after 'no power switch 1 module 2', what does it show?

Hi,
Cat6500# show power switch 1 ( It says the power is on plz see below)
output:
2 Intrusion Detection System 140.22 1.36 140.22 1.36 on on
.
Okay can you tell me what will happen if I run the cmd #enable power switch 1 module 2 ? Will the card restarts??? or what exactly will happen?
Waiting for your reply.
Thanks
Fariha

Hi Raza,
Thanks for the testing Its an amazing to have technical guys like you who will go beyond and help us.
a) Could you tell me what version are you running on the cat 6500 ?
b) Okay I totally agree it should work as expected. But I dont know why it didn't work for me looks like bug will research on this.
c) Anyhow last but least question is I have enabled the cmd: no power switch 1 module 2 as you see in the config but still the module stays up.
My question now is what will happen if i run the cmd ## power switch 1 module 2 ?
Any comment on this would be appriciated.
Regards,
Fariha.

Fariha,
Thanks for your kind comments
a) Could you tell me what version are you running on the cat 6500 ?
I am running SXI2a and testing SXI3.
My recommendation is that you should defiantly run SXI2a because there are some nasty bugs in earlier versions like SXI1 and SXI2.
b) Okay I totally agree it should work as expected. But I dont know why it didn't work for me looks like bug will research on this.
Take a look at the release notes for SXI2a and earlier. I read it a while back, but do not recall seeing bugs regarding power to modules

I noticed during the testing that when you powered up the module, it will restart the module and run diagnostic on it before bring it up completely.
basically when you power it down it is the equivalent of taking the module out of the chassis and putting it back.
In your case, you should take the module out of the chassis and reinsert it to the same chassis or another chassis to see if behaves normal after that.(if the module is not in production of course)
