Cisco 7600/ Catalyst 6500 Supervisor RSP 720 DRAM size question

Good day!

I am a bit confusing with real DRAM size on my RSP720-3C-GE, as it stays in cisco documents it is 1G DRAM minimum:

•PFC3C and MSFC4 with 512-MB bootflash, 4-MB NVRAM, 4-MB ROMMON, and several DRAM options:

–Route processor (RP): 1- to 4-GB DRAM (default 1 GB)

–Switch processor (SP): 1- to 2-GB DRAM (default 1 GB)

BTW when i issue command show version i get following values:

cisco Catalyst 6000 (M8500) processor with 851968K/65536K bytes of memory.
Processor board ID FOX1226G4RP
CPU: MPC8548_E, Version: 2.0, (0x80390020)
CORE: E500, Version: 2.0, (0x80210020)
CPU:1200MHz, CCB:400MHz, DDR:200MHz,
L1: D-cache 32 kB enabled
I-cache 32 kB enabled

what made up in summ 896 Mb of Memory.

Can somebody clarify this?

And am I allowed to upgrade to new version of IOS which is required 1Gb RAM?

Hi Alexey, I was in your same condition, and finally I went through upgrading the IOS even if the requirement was not strictly matched. I read somewhere that the numbers shown as requirements for the IOS to be installed are just rounded.
My experience is that the upgrade had no problem (use at your own risk :) ) !
