Quad sup will be available on Sup1-XL and SUP1-XL-Y to enable quadsup (or StackWise virtual). Quad sup support (RPR mode) on 9400 has been targeted  for 17.2.1,  March 2020.

Odd.  I'm reading the 17.2.X Release Notes and Cisco IOS-XE 17.2.1 – Catalyst 9000 Switching Updates and quad Sup support is mentioned nowhere.

Must be an "undocumented feature".

Can anybody confirm on this?

and 17.3.1 and 17.4.1 and ....

Hi,

The new version 16.9.1 support stackwise-virtual configuration on the 9400.

Good luck as I can see some bugs.

@amin.amor what bugs ?

It’s really unfortunate Cisco 9410 with sup 1 not support stackwise virtual or VSS

Now we made upgrade and got struck

The feature requires a
special, additional, C9400-SUP-UPG-LIC= license with Cisco Catalyst 9400SeriesSupervisor 1 Module
(C9400-SUP-1).

Its true 9400 series need licence ,but as of now ios xe for  9410 with sup 1 does not support  stackwise virtual or VSS

Please correct me if this is true.

On product support/requirements  page of latest ios xe  its mentioned

So many people need this feature otherwise we have gone back to old days with GLBP AND HSRP

Yes, it is only supported only on Cisco Catalyst 9404R and Cisco Catalyst 9407R switches. STRANGE!!

Hai now stackwise virtual supported on cisco 9410 with sup 1.

Is there is any support like quad sup sso for two sup 1 in each core.

Hello,

have a look at the stack virtual whitepaper

https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-9000/nb-06-cat-9k-stack-wp-cte-en.pdf?dtid=osscdc000283

The additional supervisors should not be able to go over ROMMON state.

The two active supervisors form an SSO pair with NSF.

The support for Quad Supervisors may be on the roadmap for the modular 9x00 like 9400 that can host two supervisors, but not supported at the moment.

There was an answer from a Cisco employee about this aspect on a recent thread.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
