Hello,

I have a problem with Cisco ASR1001 MGMT port (GigabitEthernet0). The port is down and I do not know why.

Interface configuration :

interface GigabitEthernet0
vrf forwarding Mgmt-intf
ip address 10.30.10.30 255.255.255.0
negotiation auto
!
vrf definition Mgmt-intf
!
address-family ipv4
exit-address-family
!
address-family ipv6
exit-address-family
!

Port status :

GigabitEthernet0 is down, line protocol is down
Hardware is RP management port, address is ccef.48ea.b7c0 (bia ccef.48ea.b7c0)
Internet address is 10.30.10.30/24
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1000000 Kbit/sec, DLY 10 usec,
reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set
Keepalive set (10 sec)
Auto Duplex, Auto Speed, link type is auto, media type is RJ45
output flow-control is unsupported, input flow-control is unsupported
ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00
Last input never, output never, output hang never
Last clearing of "show interface" counters never
Input queue: 0/75/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 0
Queueing strategy: fifo
Output queue: 0/40 (size/max)
5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
0 packets input, 0 bytes, 0 no buffer
Received 0 broadcasts (0 IP multicasts)
0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles
0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored
0 watchdog, 0 multicast, 0 pause input
0 packets output, 0 bytes, 0 underruns
0 output errors, 0 collisions, 1 interface resets
0 unknown protocol drops
0 babbles, 0 late collision, 0 deferred
0 lost carrier, 0 no carrier, 0 pause output
0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

I don't know why the port is down. The port is yet connected with a cable directly to a switch, but no connectivity.

An idea ?

Thanks :)

Best Regards,
Fabien

Hi

Could you try no negotiation auto then speed 1000 duplex full , hard code the interface I found these ASRs and 4000 series routers a bit finicky when it comes to negotiation with other devices and changing this has resolved it for me before

shouldn't prevent anything coming up but don't forget the vrf default route

ip route vrf Mgmt-vrf 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 172.21.223.254

I forced speed and set a default route for mgmt but it does not change ;-(

Yes port could be faulty as Reza pointed out , you could try another cable that you know is working incase something is off with current one

I tried using another cable. Same problem.

It appears you have done all the troubleshooting steps. Maybe the last thing to do is to upgrade the IOS to a different version and if that doesn't do it than RMA is the next step.

Hi,

You configuration looks correct. Can you make sure the port on the switch is not shut and has auto negotiation?

If it is not, can you try a different port on the switch?

If not you may have bad mgmt port on the ASR.

HTH

Yes. I have try directly with my laptop and it's same. No led on on network card ;-(
