Cisco C6840-X-LE-40G support on HSRP

Hi,

Can someone advise on if C6840-X-LE-40G supports FHRP, as I have found below from data sheet

"High availability: Two Cisco Catalyst 6840-X Series Switches can be combined into a VSS. In addition to high availability VSS, provides ease of operation by providing a single point of management, eliminating the need for First Hop Routing Protocol (FHRP) and removing the reliance on Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) for link failure restoration."

Hi Godwin,

Yes, You can create a VSS cluster with 2 6840 series switches and eliminate the need for HSRP, VRRP), etc.. No need for any of that since the 2 switches logically become one switch.

Hi Reza,

Thanks much for your reply.

But my question is if I run 2 x C6840 as standalone (no VSS), then will it support FHRP? In the data sheer, I am unable to see that it support FHRP.

Hi Godwin,

If you set them up in stand alone mode, yes you can run HSRP or VRRP.

See example config in this link:

Hi!

You can use FHRP no matter if the switch (or switches in this case) work as VSS. So you can have an HSRP adjacency with 2 VSS.

This is usually seen in data center environments where redundancy needs to be crazy high.

I hope my answer is clear. If not please let me know.

Thank you!
