Cisco Catalyst 9500 - IOS Upgrade

beta_admin66
Level 1
Level 1

Hello together,

I want to upgrade to a Cisco Catalyst 9500.

I enter the following command:

install add file bootflash:cat9k_iosxe.16.09.04.SPA.bin activate commit

The following line I confirm with Yes:
Please confirm you have changed boot config to bootflash:packages.conf [y/n]

The following line I also confirm with Yes:
This operation requires a reload of the system. Do you want to proceed? [y/n]

But then the former IOS is loaded:
boot: reading file cat9k_iosxe.16.09.03.SPA.bin

What did I do wrong?

What is the exact model of the switch? Is this a "plain" 9500 or a high-performance 9500?

Hello,

Cisco Catalyst C-9500-24Y4C-A

Ok, so this is a "high performance" version.
Post the output to the following commands:
1. sh boot;
2. more flash:packages.conf (I want to see the output from pages 2 & 3).

Reload

reload

Use this command to reload the switch.

Switch# reload

boot flash:
If your switches are configured with auto boot, then the stack will automatically boot up with the new image. If not, you can manually boot flash:packages.conf

Switch: boot flash:packages.conf

show version

After the image boots up, use this command to verify the version of the new image.
Note
When you boot the new image, the boot loader is automatically updated, but the new bootloader version is not displayed in the output until the next reload.

The following sample output of the show version command displays the Cisco IOS XE Fuji 16.9.1 image on the device:

Switch# show version
Cisco IOS XE Software, Version 16.09.01
Cisco IOS Software [Fuji], Catalyst L3 Switch Software (CAT9K_IOSXE), Version 16.9.1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Hello together, now I have a completely different problem.

I would like to load the IOS cat9k_iosxe.16.09.04.SPA.bin from the bootflash below, but the IOS cat9k_iosxe.16.06.04a.SPA.bin is always loaded, which does not boot properly.

I also entered the correct IOS in the Bootvar.

I also have the command:

no system ignore startup config switch

entered. Without success.

If I am rommon mode I enter

boot bootflash:cat9k_iosxe.16.06.04a.SPA.bin,

this IOS is being loaded.

Can someone help me, Is there something wrong with the switch?

Thank you very much.

your boot looks wrong why os there 2 ::

should look like this with your image name

sh bootvar
BOOT variable = bootflash:cat9k_iosxe.16.09.03.SPA.bin;
Configuration Register is 0x102
MANUAL_BOOT variable = no
BAUD variable = 9600
ENABLE_BREAK variable does not exist
BOOTMODE variable does not exist
IPXE_TIMEOUT variable does not exist
CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist

sh run | i boot
boot system bootflash:cat9k_iosxe.16.09.03.SPA.bin

Boot variable string is incorrect.
The correct syntax should be "boot system flash bootflash:cat9k_iosxe.16.09.04.SPA.bin".
By the way, Install Mode is recommended over Bundle Mode.

You can install the IOS directly from the USB, and following command is working. It is applicable for all Cisco Catalyst 9500

Switch#install add file usbflash0:cat9k_iosxe.16.09.04.SPA.bin activate commit

then save the config Switch#wr me

then reload the switch and check the version
